2023 is shaping up as a big year for foldable smartphones. Apart from Google unveiling the Pixel Fold next week, Samsung is also reportedly set to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 at the end of July. As for OnePlus, prominent leaker Max Jambor forecasted that the OnePlus Fold will emerge from secrecy this coming August.
The account stopped short of providing the actual release date and availability. In addition, the August window can carry different connotations. It might be a China-only release or a worldwide announcement for the OnePlus Fold, where the latter would include major regions like Europe and the USA. Likewise, August is also when OnePlus normally launches its products, such as the OnePlus 10T 5G NextPit reviewed in 2022.
OnePlus Fold features and design
Details about the device remain scarce, although the most recent rumors point to the OnePlus Fold or V Fold (Chinese model) featuring a 2K main foldable display that can be compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. On the other hand, it has been presumed that the OnePlus Fold might take parts from Oppo’s bin, sharing technologies and design cues with the Oppo Find N2 that we’ve reviewed.

There were also earlier rumors of a smaller OnePlus foldable in a clamshell form factor. Apparently, only the fully foldable Fold model was highlighted in the most recent leaks.
It would be interesting how OnePlus will position the OnePlus Fold in the market considering the rather burgeoning number of competitors. If it could equip it with better specifications such as a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, then it might be able to undercut some models like the upcoming Motorola Razr 40 Ultra which is tipped to feature an older Snapdragon SoC.
