In a short clip shared by Google, there was very little surprise given how the Pixel Fold starred in different mockups and alleged marketing materials previously. This time, we can confirm that it will have some rather noticeable thick bezels that grace the inner display while sporting an elliptical camera island that houses a triple camera module at the back.
In addition, the official render of the device provided us with the best glimpse yet of the Pixel Fold’s folding mechanism with its exposed hinge. Apparently, the component is custom-made and has a very durable build-quality, allowing the user to fold it more times compared to other perceived rivals such as Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the Oppo Find N2. It remains unknown just what kind of water resistance/proof rating it will carry.
Apart from the video, the tagline “May The Fold Be With You” and May 10th date were spotted. At the same time, the Pixel Fold has already been listed under the “Coming Soon” section on Google’s online store. Previous reports suggested that Google will open preorders for the Pixel Fold right after the event, but actual shipping may only begin at the end of this month or early June.
Other features of the Pixel-branded foldable will most probably include a 5.8-inch cover screen, a 7.6-inch main foldable display that will be supplied by Samsung, a triple camera array similar to the Pixel 7 Pro, and the Tensor G2 SoC under the hood. Concerning its price, the Google Pixel Fold could command a hefty price tag of $1,799, placing it on par with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold’s base model.
