How could Samsung improve crease in its foldable?

South Korean news outlet The Elec cited its supply chain sources where Samsung will use upgraded display technologies on the Galaxy Z Flip 6. In particular, the inner flexible AMOLED display is said to be covered by a thicker UTG (ultra-thin glass) panel which measures 50 micrometers, notably up from 30 micrometers in the current Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The most apparent change wth having thicker glass protection is the reduction of the crease in the inner display, which could apply in both actual groove size and appearance when viewed at an angle. In addition, the new panel should also offer better protection from debris and lint that could damage the bottom display.

The new report aligns with a previous finding from a few months back, which mentioned a new “IronFlex” display that will debuting in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. Hence, both would likely refer to the same technology, with “IronFlex” proving to be a strategically better name.

The publication does not expect the hinge to be improved in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 this year. However, there was mention of an even brighter main screen that would place it further ahead of the Chinese clamshell phone alternatives.

Aside from the display, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is rumored to feature a bigger battery cell that would deliver a longer running time from its predecessor. With Samsung fitting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, battery life should also be stretched.

It’s unclear if there are camera improvements this time arund or the addition of a telephoto snapper. What’s likely to be in store are new generative AI features that would emphasize its foldable form factor usage.
