Over at Weibo, owners have pointed out that their brand new OnePlus 12 handsets were plagued with substandard assembly. Some shared images (via Android Authority) of their handsets showing noticeable gaps between the panels and frame. Plus, others noticed the use of excessive glue in certain sections of the device.

However, the most bizarre so far is a post from user FIGO_2023, depicting a small, dead bug stuck between the panels. Even worse than that, the account also noticed a visible strand of sandwiched between the camera plate and the back housing.

The problem appears to be concentrated on the exterior assembly parts, particularly at the joints and gaps between the curved back, camera panel, and chassis. Apart from the visible flaws, the gaps have not been reported to negatively impact the overall grip of the device, not to mention compromising its IP65 dust and water-resistant rating.

The debacle caught the attention of Xiaomi’s executive Lu Weibing, having chimed in his thoughts without directly referring to OnePlus. He basically worked with relevant teams from the industry to uncover the cause of the issue. The official added that they have arrived at a conclusion where [OnePlus] has poorer quality controls compared to even Xiaomi’s budget brand, Redmi.

Will the same problem affect the OnePlus 12 global models?

At the moment, not all OnePlus 12 owners reported similar build quality concerns on their device. OnePlus has yet to provide an official update on the matter. However, it seems that some of Oppo’s customer service centers have been addressing customers’ complaints.

Whether the same fate awaits OnePlus 12 buyers in global markets remains unknown. However, with the issue gaining traction, it’s likely that OnePlus still has enough time to iron things out in their assembly line before the OnePlus 12 is released internationally. According to rumors, the OnePlus 12 will debut in the US on January 23, which is a month from now.
