This iOS 26 Update Might Save Your iPhone from Crashing

iOS 26 arrived on iPhones two weeks ago, bringing major enhancements including the Liquid Glass UI. Alongside those thoughtful and exciting changes, users also faced numerous bugs, especially iPhone 17 users. Apple has recently shipped iOS 26.0.1 to address those issues, along with a patch for a security flaw that put users at risk.
iOS 26.0.1 may be a minor update based on its version number, but it is an important firmware release. It not only brings refinements to iOS 26 overall but also includes a fix for a security vulnerability.
Fonts Can Crash Your iPhone and Mac
The flaw is labeled and tracked as CVE-2025-43400, and it carries a medium level of severity. It is related to the operating system's font component.
Attackers can exploit the bug to trigger memory corruption or a denial-of-service attack by sending specific fonts. These fonts can be delivered through messages, email attachments, or web content. Once successfully deployed, they may cause applications to crash or corrupt memory.
Impact: Processing a maliciously crafted font may lead to unexpected app termination or corrupted process memory
Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking
Security experts from Akaoma Cybersecurity have highlighted that the flaw can be exploited remotely without requiring changes to the device's privilege level, although user interaction is necessary.
Apple has patched this vulnerability in iOS 26.0.1 for iPhones and iPads, and in macOS Sonoma 14.8.1 for Macs and MacBooks. Older devices running the latest supported software have also received the security fix, though through a different OS package.
iOS 26.0.1 Fixes Several iPhone 17 Bugs
Apple is also addressing several bugs in iOS 26 with this update. These include fixes for unstable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity on the latest iPhone 17 (Pro) and iPhone Air. Many users reported frequent disconnections and spotty connections, especially when using Apple CarPlay. The update also resolves cellular connectivity issues affecting certain iPhone models.
Additionally, the update fixes a bug that caused random visual artifacts in photos taken with the iPhone 17 (Pro) and iPhone Air under specific conditions. However, it remains unclear how widespread this camera issue is or how many users were affected.
If you're running iOS 26 on your iPhone, you can check for the update manually by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
