500: maintenance mode

Greetings from the Engine Room!

Sorry, but there's really nothing to see here right now. Our server is in maintenance mode – and our little bot is trying to sort the error messages with its last bit of energy.

Whether it was a data leak, a power outage in the cluster, or just a grumpy bit – we don't know yet. But what we do know is:

The data drama escalated into a server meltdown. But don't worry: We're on it.

What now?

  • Everything is surely running smoothly over at our colleagues from inside digital – why not stop by!
  • Or you could pass the time by visiting our social media channels – for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. At least there are no server problems there – promised.

Thanks for your patience. Our bot is already rebooting at full speed. 🔧

It Is Time to Kill 4G Phones. Maybe Not for the Reasons You Imagine | Opinion
This month the first wide-scale 5G network completes five years, yet some big companies are still launching $350 4G-only phones in 2024. It is time to kill 4G phones—with a few exceptions, of course—and it is not because 5G has been anything special at all.

Netflix, Disney+ Price Increases: Will They Ever Stop?
Streaming services have replaced analog television for some years now. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and many other service providers have seen their subscription numbers skyrocket—especially during the pandemic. However, subscription costs continue to rise annually and there are now even subscription options that provide us with unnecessary (and unwanted) advertising. Why is that happening? Has production become more expensive? Are Netflix, Amazon, and other video streaming services now greedier? nextpit searches for the answers to these questions!

Nothing Revived the Age-Old War Over Android Call Recording
Nothing attracted some publicity that it could have done without. Following the Nothing Phone (2a)'s launch, the manufacturer proudly announced a 'new' feature. Its voice recorder lets you record phone calls "discreetly." This is considered an illegal practice in the EU, land of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). However, over in the USA, the legality of call recording depends on the laws of the state. Unintentionally, Nothing revived an age-old battle between Google and call-recording apps. I invite you to dive with me into this "rabbit hole" that goes much further than you might think.

Android and AI: Please, Google — Don't Repeat These Mistakes!
Google wants to revolutionize internet searches with the "Circle to Search" feature. The exciting AI feature is currently available on selected devices such as the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review) or the Pixel 8 Pro (review). However, is Google possibly shooting itself in the foot using this strategy by repeating its previous mistakes with Android? Do stay to find out my opinion about this matter.

How the Industry is Killing AI for Me
Humans are innately creative beings. We dream, we read, and we imagine—each to varying extents, but the capacity is inherently ours. Perhaps it is this vision of a world where artificial intelligence (AI) represents more than its current state that left me feeling deeply disillusioned at one of the world's largest mobile summits last week. The technology industry, which is always trying to come up with new ideas, seems to be a bit lost when it comes to AI-powered products.

Galaxy Ring at MWC: You Can See It, But You Can't Wear It!
Samsung is not unveiling the Galaxy Ring at MWC in Barcelona. Yes, I saw it. In fact, everyone who passed through Samsung's booth at the fair would have seen it. However, they won't be able to touch it or obtain any in-depth information about it. Why? Samsung is applying the same secretive approach we all observed when the company released its first Galaxy Z Fold.

Apple and Its iPhone 15 Pro Max Turned Me Away from Android Gaming
Apple transformed me into a total snob when it comes to mobile gaming. Since I've been able to play AAA games on the iPhone 15 Pro Max (review), I refuse to return to classic mobile games on an Android smartphone. Even with a powerhouse like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (review), Android games have lost most of their luster for me. Am I gentrified or must Android gaming change its fundamentals?

Please Samsung, That’s Not How You Treat Your Fans! | Opinion
The Fan Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S23 is many things, but certainly not made for "fans". Yes, the Galaxy S23 FE is actually a nice smartphone, no question about it. But I don't get it: who is this for, Samsung? And who came up with the timing? Honestly, if this is what your fan editions look like, then please leave it alone. Read the comment from a Samsung fan here.

Will the AI Age See a Flood of Subscription Models?
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 series this week and has named its new smartphone the first "AI smartphone". According to the manufacturer, the AI features will be free until at least the end of 2025. What happens after that? Are we facing a new era of subscription models and microtransactions? It would not necessarily be too far from the truth.
