500: maintenance mode

Greetings from the Engine Room!

Sorry, but there's really nothing to see here right now. Our server is in maintenance mode – and our little bot is trying to sort the error messages with its last bit of energy.

Whether it was a data leak, a power outage in the cluster, or just a grumpy bit – we don't know yet. But what we do know is:

The data drama escalated into a server meltdown. But don't worry: We're on it.

What now?

  • Everything is surely running smoothly over at our colleagues from inside digital – why not stop by!
  • Or you could pass the time by visiting our social media channels – for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. At least there are no server problems there – promised.

Thanks for your patience. Our bot is already rebooting at full speed. 🔧

The sleek Oppo R5 recently landed on our doorstep. From the manufacturer which brought us one of the standout devices of 2014, the Find 7, comes a thin, light, midrange handset. Is there more to this device than just good looks? Find out in our Oppo R5 review.

Samsung Gear S review: perfectly functional and flawed
Samsung has released a number of smartwatches over the last 12 months. This time it was the turn of its first “standalone” smartwatch, a smartwatch which lets you make and receive calls from your wrist. Except, it’s not really standalone, because you need a smartphone… a Samsung smartphone… to be able to use it. So, what’s the big idea behind this new Samsung wearable? Find all this out and more in our Samsung Gear S review.

Tesco Hudl 2 review: the best budget tablet to buy this holiday season?
Last year, Tesco’s Hudl tablet came as something of a surprise. Few people would have expected that an Android tablet offered by a supermarket at such a low price could be any good – but many people were very pleasantly surprised. The follow up, the Tesco Hudl 2, came out at the end of Septebmer and once again, it’s very cheap – pitched squarely at the likes of the Nexus 7 (2013) and there are a lot of improvements. It’s easy is dismiss low-cost tablet out of hand but, without wanting to spoil the conclusion of the Tesco Hudl 2 review, sometimes there are devices that buck the trend, offering something really quite special at a great price. Best Android tablets of 2015

Nexus 5 review: still top-shelf one year on
The LTE-enabled Nexus 5 is the successor to Google’s hugely popular Nexus 4, arriving one year after the first LG-built Google phone appeared to incredible fanfare and demand. While the Nexus 5 has recently been superceded by the Nexus 6, the larger format of the newer Nexus has some people concerned. Fortunately, the Nexus 5 will continue to be sold alongside the Nexus 6, and it has now been updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. In our revisited Nexus 5 review, we see how the Google phone stacks up as one of Google’s longest running smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S4 review: is last year’s phone still a good buy?
There’s no question that the Galaxy S4 was the most-hyped device of 2013. Samsung’s poured millions of dollars into marketing the S4 as a “life companion,” which can translate your speech at the drop of a hat, beautify your photos and help you connect with the folks around you. Samsung is now a bonafide Apple competitor, with a rabid fanbase to show for it. But underneath all of the hype, is this a phone you’re going to want to own? How does it stack up against the competition out there? We’ve been playing around with the Galaxy S4 for a few days and we have a few words to say on the matter. Here is our Galaxy S4 review. Our review of Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S22

Google Nexus 9 review: a glass half full
The Nexus 9, Google’s new tablet built by HTC, has already made a massive impact on Android by being the first device to run the final version of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Nexus 9 also bridges the size gap between Google’s previous tablet offerings in the Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10 while introducing a 4:3 aspect ratio for the first time. Here’s our full Nexus 9 review.

HTC One (E8) review: a lighter, cheaper One (M8)
When I hear criticisms of the HTC One (M8), they are usually one of the following four gripes: too heavy, bad camera, don’t like metal, too expensive. But what if you could have a lighter, cheaper, plastic M8 with a ”normal” camera? Well, that’s exactly what HTC built. Check out our HTC One (E8) review to see if it’s a better One (M8).

LG G Watch R review: Circular, but not full circle
Most Android Wear smartwatches are not very good right now. A lot of this is down to Android Wear still being in its fledgling stages, complete with bugs, limitations and some hardware issues. The LG G Watch R is no different: while it is very good in some respects, there’s still a bit too much that isn’t up to scratch to make it a must have – and yet it is still probably the best Android Wear watch around. Read on for the full LG G Watch R review to see where it comes full circle and where it comes up short.
