At first glance, the Motorola Edge 70 presents itself as a particularly slim smartphone with an eye-catching color palette. You won’t find classic black or white here. Instead, there are three variants to choose from: a deep dark green with golden accents (“Bronze Green”), a petrol-colored tone with orange highlights (“Lily Pad”), and a grey-blue model with blue details (“Gadget Grey”). The petrol-colored model, in particular, is likely to appeal to many of you – our test device, in bronze green, also looks great. Motorola relies on a cooperation with the color specialists from Pantone for the color design and has been bringing trend-conscious designs to the market for years.

Slim Format – Best Without a Case

At just 5.99 millimetres, the Edge 70 is one of the thinnest smartphones currently available. In addition to the slim housing, the low weight of just 159 grams is another notable feature. In times when many devices exceed the 200 gram mark, this is a noticeable relief in everyday life.

The device really comes into its own when it is used without a case. The textured metal frame and the back in a nylon look ensure an excellent feel – better than with most protective covers. If you still don’t want to do without a case, a high-quality transparent model is included in the scope of delivery.

Surprisingly Robust Despite Its Slim Design

Despite its delicate design, the Motorola Edge 70 is surprisingly robust. The built-in Gorilla Glass 7 protects the display, and the device has not only been certified to IP69 against dust and water, but also tested to military standards with higher load limits.

The smartphone is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, heavy rain, sand, and even submersion. We were able to experience this for ourselves at the launch event: The Edge 70 was tested in a cold chamber and an infrared sauna, immersed in sand and water, and even frozen in a block of ice for a week. After being freed with a drill and chisel, the device was immediately ready for use again.

Features: Solid Mid-Range With Premium Accents

Technically, the Edge 70 is in the upper mid-range. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display impresses with its vibrant colors and high brightness. A current mid-range SoC is used as the processor, which delivers stable performance after a day of everyday use.

Pleasing: Despite the slim design, hardly any savings were made on the battery. At 4,800 mAh, the capacity is only slightly below the industry standard of 5,000 mAh – significantly more than the Samsung S25 Edge’s 3,900 mAh. This is made possible by the new silicon-carbon batteries that many Chinese manufacturers have been using for some time. It allows either thinner devices with the same capacity or larger batteries with the same smartphone size.

On the back is a 50-megapixel primary camera with a Sony sensor, as well as an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 50-megapixel resolution. There is no optical zoom – models such as the Nothing Phone 3a Pro or the Honor 400 Pro offer more. Nevertheless, the camera makes a solid impression, even if a final verdict is not yet possible after one day.

Ambitious price – with an attractive starter package

With an RRP of 799 euros, the Motorola Edge 70 is not exactly cheap for its features. However, a price drop is to be expected in the coming months. For the market launch, Motorola is offering an interesting bundle for anyone who needs a complete package: Wireless headphones, a fitness tracker, a Moto Tag (Android counterpart to the AirTag), and a charger are included.
