500: maintenance mode

Greetings from the Engine Room!

Sorry, but there's really nothing to see here right now. Our server is in maintenance mode – and our little bot is trying to sort the error messages with its last bit of energy.

Whether it was a data leak, a power outage in the cluster, or just a grumpy bit – we don't know yet. But what we do know is:

The data drama escalated into a server meltdown. But don't worry: We're on it.

What now?

  • Everything is surely running smoothly over at our colleagues from inside digital – why not stop by!
  • Or you could pass the time by visiting our social media channels – for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. At least there are no server problems there – promised.

Thanks for your patience. Our bot is already rebooting at full speed. 🔧

Tesla shows that we no longer (have to) own cars
Through an unfortunate chain of events, a Tesla customer has lost the autopilot function of his newly purchased Model S. The manufacturer had switched off the function remotely. This process may cause a stir, but it is perfectly legal and contractual - making it an example for the future of car ownership.

TABLET
The business of leaks is a bitter yet addictive pill to swallow
I think you have noticed by now that the MWC 2020 is just around the corner. On the one hand, there are more and more reports about a possible influence of the coronavirus, on the other hand, more and more information is leaking out about what the world of technology can expect from the largest mobile phone trade fair. But MWC also means that one leak follows the next. And even though I'm disgusted by bad render images and Photoshop fakes - my addiction to new leaked material just won't let up.

Stop with folding smartphones already, nobody wants them
I am very confident that Samsung will launch the next generation of a foldable smartphone on February 11. Have you seen the promotional video, where a small square object scurries back and forth under a white cloth, adding "Galaxy" at the end? It's a sure thing. The Motorola Razr is also about to be delivered. I'd like to be happy, but I'm skeptical. More than that - I want manufacturers to finally stop bringing immature products onto the market.

SMART HOME & ROBOTS
The smart home alliance: how Amazon, Apple and Google are teaming up
Anyone who wants to make their home smart faces a number of challenges. Which system fits with which other systems? Which smartphone, speaker or TV can I use with the system? Wich ecosystem do I buy into? However, such questions should soon come to an end. Because the largest providers want to make it uniform.

We need a new kind of operating system for the 5G era
The Internet of Everything requires a new type of operating system. Google and Huawei, among others, are already working at full speed on new platforms for the 5G era. Android, iOS, and Windows will lose importance.

Why your next smartphone should really be a Realme
Realme has set foot in Europe with some interesting devices. For some, this name still sounds unknown but will soon establish itself on the market thanks to well-made smartphones that perform well and are cheap. But is it worth buying a device from the brand? In my opinion, it absolutely is.

How Google accidentally created the ultimate Digital Wellbeing feature
When Google unveiled its plans for giving smartphone users the tools to put down their devices and spend more time in the analog world, eyebrows were raised in our editorial office. Some saw the move as the pub landlord campaigning for us all to cut back on drinking, others predicted it simply wouldn't work. We're too addicted, too dependent. Fast-forward to today and Google has accidentally achieved its goal, but not how you might think.

Two weeks with the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, and camera test problems
First place with 121 points! But it's not only at DxOMark that the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro and its sibling Mi Note 10 got great feedback for its camera. After two weeks traveling through Indonesia with the Mi Note 10 where more than 2000 photos and videos were taken, I have to say, unfortunately: I can't agree at all with the euphoric test reports. At the same time, problems that all tests are struggling with - including ours, of course - also become clear.
