Google is now selling its most affordable mid range Pixel phone at a discounted rate. The Pixel 9a is currently priced at $399, representing a $100 discount from its usual price at major retailers including Amazon and the Google Store.
This reflects a 20% price cut for the base model with 128 GB of storage. While this is not the all time low, it is a significant reduction. You can pick up the device in Iris, Obsidian, Porcelain, and Peony Pink.
Why Buy the Google Pixel 9a?
The Google Pixel 9a (review) hit the scene in April 2025, less than a year after its predecessor. Despite the quick turnaround, it arrived with thoughtful changes and upgrades that make it a solid mid range alternative to the standard flagship models.
On the exterior, the device has been completely redesigned. It departs from the classic floating camera bar for a flatter, cleaner look where the dual camera module is almost flush with the back panel. The device retains the aluminum frame and plastic back of previous models, but it now features a higher IP68 dust and water resistance rating, providing better protection against submersion.
The device features a wider 6.3 inch OLED display. This increased screen area is offset by thinner bezels to maintain a compact overall size. Additionally, the panel outputs 2,700 nits of peak brightness, which is on par with many flagship models.
Under the hood, the Pixel 9a is powered by the Tensor G4 SoC, the same chip found in the flagship Pixel 9. This provides modest CPU and GPU performance enhancements, resulting in a more stable user experience and faster AI processing. The device also lasts longer on a single charge thanks to its larger 5,100 mAh battery. Charging speeds have also seen a slight improvement, now reaching 23 watts.
The Pixel 9a features a new camera array, helmed by a 48 MP wide shooter paired with a 13 MP ultrawide lens. This setup is versatile and reliably captures photos and videos with pleasing colors and high levels of detail. It also performs well in night scenarios thanks to Google’s optimized software algorithms. The handset also enjoys flagship AI powered camera features like Best Take and Super Res Zoom.
