500: maintenance mode

Greetings from the Engine Room!

Sorry, but there's really nothing to see here right now. Our server is in maintenance mode – and our little bot is trying to sort the error messages with its last bit of energy.

Whether it was a data leak, a power outage in the cluster, or just a grumpy bit – we don't know yet. But what we do know is:

The data drama escalated into a server meltdown. But don't worry: We're on it.

What now?

  • Everything is surely running smoothly over at our colleagues from inside digital – why not stop by!
  • Or you could pass the time by visiting our social media channels – for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. At least there are no server problems there – promised.

Thanks for your patience. Our bot is already rebooting at full speed. 🔧

Germany Isn’t Buying Apple’s Green Apple Watch Pitch
Apple has been dealt a legal setback in Germany. A regional court in Frankfurt has ruled that the company can no longer advertise the Apple Watch as a “CO2-neutral product.” The decision follows a complaint by Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), which accused Apple of greenwashing.

Your Next Smartwatch Might Never Need Charging Again. Here’s Why
The dream of spending more time with a device without constantly worrying about charging is something I’ve been writing about for years. I recently praised a smartphone simply because it managed to deliver true “all-day battery life.” With smartwatches, the challenge is even greater. Their compact form factor limits battery size, and bright displays that remain readable in daylight drain power quickly. That’s why every time I come across a potential solution to the dreaded “low battery” warning on a smartwatch, I pay close attention.

Smartwatches Are No Longer Just for Fitness They Can Actually Save Your Life
Smartwatches have long been about fitness tracking, heart-rate checks, and quick glances at notifications. Handy, yes, but not exactly for everyone. The thing is, Qualcomm is now putting something on the table that could capture a lot more people’s interest. With its new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 and W5+ Gen 2 platforms, the smartwatch is stepping beyond workouts and wellness into something much bigger.

Pixel Watch 4 Brings the Fixes the Pixel Watch 3 Needed
Google has officially introduced the Pixel Watch 4, and this year’s update feels less like an incremental refresh and more like a course correction. While last year’s Pixel Watch 3 did not disappoint with its brighter display and expanded size options, it also left users asking for better battery life, faster charging, and a more powerful processor. With the Pixel Watch 4, Google is finally delivering on those demands. Let’s break down the differences between the Pixel Watch 4 and its predecessor.

The One Upgrade You Shouldn’t Expect on the Apple Watch Ultra 3
Since its debut, the Apple Watch Ultra has stood out for its appeal to outdoor adventurers, with a bright, oversized display, rugged titanium case, physical buttons, and unique watch faces. The upcoming Ultra 3, expected in September, appears to follow that formula, with credible reports indicating major upgrades. But one thing the leaks have not mentioned, and history suggests we will not see, is longer battery life. Apple has kept endurance consistent across the Ultra line, and with no sign of change in the rumors, this could remain its most persistent limitation.

Your Smartwatch Doesn’t Know Much About Your Mental State and Here’s Why
I review smartwatches and fitness trackers for a living because I believe they can offer an excellent overview of our physical health. I even believe they can help us change our habits. But one thing you will not see me recommend in a review is using them to measure stress. At least, not yet. The reason is simple: wearables are limited in their ability to measure stress levels. And a recent study just proved it.
