Samsung is working on a Galaxy Note 10 with 5G connectivity

First comes the Galaxy S10, then a few months later the new Galaxy Note. That's the tradition at Samsung. 5G is one of the big themes of 2019, and the big manufacturers are starting to bet on it. This is also the case with Samsung, which is developing a 5G version of its Samsung Galaxy Note 10, the next member of its family of phablets. What else do we know about Note 10?

5G for the Note 10

At the last Unpacked event, Koreans deployed their entire new Galaxy S10 family, including the S10 5G, a giant 6.7-inch smartphone with 5G connection. It is expected to be launched in the summer and is considered Samsung's first contact with 5G connectivity.

Now, and after a leak found in the source code of the S10, it has been discovered that there is a version of the future Galaxy Note 10 that will be compatible with 5G networks (well, when these are operational, of course...). His code name is "davinci." Even though this name is absolutely temporary and of exclusive internal use, this reminds us of something: will Note 10 really have this name? Five years ago, Samsung released a tablet under the name Galaxy Note 10.1, which could cause confusion... Maybe it's time for Koreans to change the name to their range of phablets.

Otherwise, we can expect a SoC Snapdragon 855 for its US and Chinese version, and an Exynos 9820 for all other countries, the same configuration already used by Galaxy S10. However, in the version with 5G would be accompanied by a modem Snapdragon X50 5G and Exynos 5100 5G, respectively. There is talk of a large 6.6-inch screen, and the rear cameras are expected to increase from the two used by the Note9 to four lenses. In addition, it is possible for your stylus, the S-Pen, to include a camera of its own.

S-Pen with its own camera

A patent application shows how Samsung envisages the next generation of the S-Pen. According to the concept, a camera lens will be located at the rear end of the pen, where a push button is currently located. The system is operated via the familiar button on the side of the S-Pen. A little further down in the new S-Pen, which we expect to see for the first time with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, is the necessary board with the electronics, which of course has to be extremely small.

The camera isn't just some kind of gimmick, Samsung has come up with something special for it. The Korean company apparently wants to use the length of the pen to make optical zoom with the camera possible. For space reasons, this is hardly possible with a smartphone that is only a few millimeters thick. With the S-Pen the Galaxy Note 10 could get a camera with a real optical zoom.

However, as with all such patent applications, caution is required because the existence of the application does not mean that the manufacturer will actually use the technology. It is possible that the new S-Pen will appear in the summer together with the Galaxy Note 10, but don't be too surprised if it doesn't.

Launch and price

Both Note8 and Note9 were presented during August, so if Samsung continues the tradition, Note 10 will be released in August 2019. The price? If in this section we also take as reference the previous releases, its price will easily exceed 1,000 dollars, and in the case of its version with 5G we must add some more on top.

What do you think about Samsung including 5G connectivity on its latest flagships?

Do you like the idea of a camera inside the S-Pen and would you like to see it in the Galaxy Note 10?

Lol! I can't think of a single user case for a camera on a little stick

No notch an a camera built into the s-pen. Sounds good to me. Samsung always diving deep into a new innovation!

I've always said that I'm going to keep my Note 4 until it becomes more expensive to fix it than to replace it because of the removable battery, the ability to add sd cards and also because I don't want to spend $1000 to $1200 dollars on a new phone while my Note 4 still has more features than I'll ever use. However, a camera in the s-pen might at least make me think about changing my mind. I would need to know more about how it works though as well as how much it will increase the cost of the phone, and will it be included on the Note 10, not be available until the Note 11, or just be another feature they're experimenting with that will never show up.
