Poll: is battery life or performance more important?

We all like our phones to carry enough processing power to run the latest apps and games without any trouble, but what if battery life suffers because of it? In our weekend poll, we're asking whether performance or battery life is more important for you when it comes to making a purchasing decision.

If this is what you're like, choose 'performance'.  / © ANDROIDPIT

If you read through the two articles linked to above the image, you'll see that only one device appears in both. That is to say, battery life and performance tend to be an either/or type of deal; very rarely do you get both in one package.

No one likes having to charge their phone every few hours, but no likes a slow OS, laggy video and crashing games, either.

There's no easy choice here, but what we'd like to know is whether you'd rather your phone persisted or performed, excelled or outlasted. Let us know by voting in our poll.

Is performance or battery life more important?

Is that too much to ask? I want a phone with great performance that can last me two days.

Ill formed question. The answer is not yes/no but where along a continuum your minimum acceptable performance and battery life lie. And you cannot exclude how long it takes to recharge as a factor.

I know, it is another pool's subject, but how about size? My phone could really be one or two mm thicker if I got more battery life instead.

In my opinion , you can't have one without the other. If you have a really good battery but bad performance on your phone , then there is no point using it and vice versa. The two components are symbiotic and are directly proportional to each other. Hell , you can even make an equation stating this fact and you can see the results for yourself !

Considering that I forget to charge in my phone, yes, the battery is imp!

Performance is very essential. Battery can be charged or you can have powerbanks but slow performance cannot be changed without always reformatting your phone.

Yes but it would be nice to have a Cell that you can turn on wifi, GPS and play a few games without it shuting down. I see people all the thime playing games and I ask abiut their battery ànd they say Oh, I carry 2 extra Batteries. What good is a fast Cell if you can't use it for very long.

Battery life for me, what's the point in a fast phone if you can't use it cause the battery is empty?

Running the Nexus 6p I have the best of both worlds for performance and battery life. Even with moderate gaming and daily use for texting and calling, battery life does me around a full day plus. I purposely tried one day to drain the battery by gaming heavily and had to use Spotify to kill off the last 5%, and the battery lasted me a full 24 hrs.

I voted for performance, as I have the excellent Samsung Galaxy S5 which has very good battery performance, avg usage means 1 charge a day. Heavy usage usually means another charge is needed at night.
But I use wireless charging which keeps it topped up. If your doing resource heavy apps then it will obviously drain your battery quicker.
I believe that those who moan about battery life don't really understand how battery usage works. Most would moan anyway even if they had a 2day battery life.

Performance is more important to me as I always carry a good power bank that charges my phone in no time, so battery life is no real issue for me.

That HAS to be battery life. That's like asking whether a Chevy Volt is a better city car than the Corvette ZR1. The ZR1 is what EVERYONE wants because it's all performance, but you don't need that performance when you're in stop and go traffic, the Volt does not feel lethargic at all. Same thing goes with smartphones. If you want the absolute best performance, get a PC, phones should NOT last for a mere 24 hours of even balls to the wall usage...

I'd rather have a beastly phone with a small battery than a 10000 mAh battery phone that lags.

Both are important good battery life with smooth performance. Use device wisely & no need to install all the apps available in Play Store. Don't create unnecessary burden on phone this will automatically increase battery life along with performance.

This was a thought one but i chose performance. I guess it's better for your phone not to lag. I carry an external battery charger to school and have my wall charger with me when i go somewhere and the external charger isn't..well...charged :D
Ofc battery life is very important for me but as someone below said you can tweak your monster phone to save battery but you can't tweak your slow phone to become faster :(

It's similar to fuel efficiency and hp in a car's engine. If you want power, you will lower fuel efficiency. The options for fuel efficiency is a bigger fuel tank or lower performance. Then you add in exterior design and desired accessories and your fuel efficiency will drop. Smartphone users want a slick, compact design with all the bells and whistles, which is counter-intuitive to better battery life. However, I can't get Corvette/911/GT/Huracan performance out of a lawnmower engine, no matter how large a fuel tank I have.

In my opinion, I'll take the performance over battery life.

both are very important factors. I believe that performance holds more weight than battery life however there needs to be a good balance.

Power over battery. You can usually tune a phone to be battery efficient. But you can't make a phone be more powerful than its hardware limits no matter the size of the battery.

I'll take 2GB of RAM vs 3-4GB of RAM and a nice huge 4000+ MAH battery guaranteed +7hrs S.O.T.
