The OnePlus 2 was released in late July 2015, and the company promised to provide updates for the device for 24 months. Now, the company has confirmed the OnePlus 2 won't be getting an update to Android Nougat after all. Here are the details on this disappointing news, and the other updates available for the device.

Confirmed: OnePlus 2 won't be getting Android Nougat update

According to Android Authority, OnePlus has confirmed that OnePlus 2 devices will not be getting an update to Android Nougat. This will no doubt come as a disappointment to users, as the company had said explicitly that the device would be getting Android N. OnePlus also promised to keep the device updated for 24 months after its release in late July 2015, meaning users had every reason to expect an update up to this point.

OnePlus said in the interview that its customer service had already been informing customers of the situation, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to people. Nevertheless, there was no official statement until now, so users may have been confused or not known about the news at all. OnePlus said the reason why the OnePlus 2 won't be getting the update is that, when it was built, the company "didn't have the software infrastructure team in place we do now."

OnePlus promised its users an update it couldn't deliver, and while it isn't the only manufacturer to have done this, perhaps it's something to keep in mind when shopping for your next smartphone. In the mean time, if you're a OnePlus 2 owner, you're not out of luck - you can still upgrade to Nougat with a custom ROM, which you can find on the XDA Developers forum or on OnePlus' forums. If you don't know what a custom ROM is, or how to flash one to your device, we've got you covered.

OxygenOS 3.5.8

Owners of the OnePlus 2 have been looking forward to an Android 7.0 Nougat update for some time now. Unfortunately, today is not their lucky day. The OxygenOS 3.5.8 update is rolling out, but it won't be bringing Nougat to the device. The update will, however, still include the March security patch and some bug fixes. These bug fixes will include: echos during Duo video calls, network dropping, audio compatibility and roaming issues. Users can expect the update to arrive OTA in the next few days.

OxygenOS 3.5.5

OnePlus has starting rolling out an update to OxygenOS bringing it to version 3.5.5, as reported in their forum. The update will happen over-the-air (OTA). However, not all phones will get the update all at once, but within the coming days, so you need to be a bit patient.

What can OnePlus 2 owners expect with the update? They will now be able to make use of the newly supported VoLTE function (though not all carriers). The manufacturer has also added App Lock and a battery saving mode, which can be switched on in the settings of your phone under Battery. Under Developer Options in the settings, there is a new Gaming Mode. Shelf optimization, the user interface and apps like Clock also got revamped.

In addition, the new update will also include the Android security patch from December, wiping out some bugs and creating a more stable system. Two issues are reported with the update though: for one, the Clock, Calculator and Messenger apps will all be replaced with OnePlus apps if you have never updated the Google apps. Secondly, some phone settings might be brought back to default.

If you are having issues with 3.5.5 and want to downgrade to 3.1.0 for whatever reason, OnePlus provides you with the steps to do it.

OxygenOS 3.0

In June 2016, OnePlus previously rolled Oxygen OS 3.0.2, based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, to users. The update began to hit devices on June 5, and OnePlus hoped to have it fully deployed within 48 hours.

The update clears your stored fingerprints, so you will have to rescan your fingers once the update is installed. Otherwise, it comes with a host of improvements, including Marshmallow's battery-saving Doze mode and a new camera UI. Find out more about the update and what it contains in the OnePlus forums.

Previously. a user had reached out to Android Police with a set of screenshots showing their OnePlus 2 running OxygenOS 3.0 based on Android Marshmallow, suggesting that a soak test of the update was underway. The images show not only the new OS version number but also some changes that OnePlus has made to its own operating system. These changes include new wallpaper, an alert slider and more customization options for the home screen.

OxygenOS 2.2.0

OnePlus announced the OxygenOS 2.2.0 rollout on December 21. It's an incremental deployment, so it may take some time to arrive on your device, but rest assured it's on its way.

The update brings security patches, as well as a number of fixes, including for dual SIM preference selection issues and Google Camera bugs. It also adds a quick setting for adjustable screen temperature, holiday wallpapers and the ability to hide the search bar option in launcher settings.

For more information, visit the OnePlus forums.

OxygenOS 2.1.0

The OxygenOS 2.1.0 update was announced via the OnePlus forums, with the following improvements:

  • Manual camera mode
  • Raw support for third party camera apps
  • Color balance slider in display settings for adjusting the color tone of the screen, a feature recently seen on the Huawei Mate S)
  • Added Exchange support
  • Fixes for problems with popular third party apps
  • Telephone service improvements to reduce "lag" when you turn airplane mode on or off
  • Other bug fixes and improvements

While these updates are welcome, it's unclear whether they cover some of the issues we were expecting. Several problems have been reported as a result of installing the previous update, OxygenOS 2.0.2, including battery drain, fingerprint scanner issues, poor quality images from the front-facing camera, and broken third-party camera apps.

While the latter has been fixed, and manual mode could improve the front-facing camera quality, we'll have to wait to see whether the other problems have been fully addressed. You can download the OxygenOS 2.1.0 zip file here to flash the update yourself, should you wish to do so.

Have you had any problems with the OnePlus 2? What additions do you want to see in OxygenOS 2.1? Let us know in the comments.

Just upgraded...The time clock in the upper right hand corner next to the battery says the time and then ... e.g. 12...
Meaning I can't see what time in the hour it is! This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen change on a phone. Nothing in setting could change that. Sooooooo mad.

I think that it can also drain the battery as this phone has no powerful battery capacity.
So, I'm not going to install it. If there is any improvement in this let me Know that.

Got it since available. Now the fingerprint sensor is not detectable anymore and an embedded apk (MBN Test (ModemTestMode.apk)) used my internet connection the last two month by 1.2 GB and ate up my battery by 20% the last 8 hours. Something seems to be wrong. Any other users with same or nearby behavior?

I am so disappointed. Bought Oneplus 2 two months back. Every other day I had to reboot to remove cumulative bugs which was slowing down the phone. And now this crapy update. Since it happen, no matter what I do - phone does not ring loudly.

Because I am formally contracted in my work to be "on call duty", this is a major problem for me and my employer. I didn't find any hints on google how to fix this also. And no option on the phone to roll back the update.

I am giving it one more week, then I am switching to iphone.... hoping I get rid of the stupid avoidables.

i faced the same problem, i restarted many times. dint work. finaly, it worked but lost data...
folow : shut down complete wait for 3 to 4 seconds,
      2. Turn on holding power and volume down, once it starts and vibrates release the buttons,
      3. select language, select wipe data and cache. then reboots, it will go through setup like a new one.

Press Power button and volume down button. Once the phone turns off, leave the power button and keep the volume down button pressed. Select "wipe data and cache" option from the boot menu and it will fix the issue. Apps and media will be restored not sure about contacts unless you have a backup

Hi I'm running oneplus2on oxy2.21,never had battery drain issues or fingerprint issues either so I guess what I'm asking is do I go ahead with the dirty flash of oxy3.0MMor wait for an OTA update?or is that likely not to happen in your opinions(which are all appreciated)thanks in advance Lee

First and foremost issue... on dial screen all the icons such as mute / hold / add call etc. appear on the upper side and at a location where it invariably touches ear and hold button gets activated. It takes a while to realize that other person is not able to hear you and in most cases, call is disconnected by other end. All other Androids have placed these at the bottom. Please consider it.

Dual sims equals one good connection and a crappy a second connection. Using one for data and one for calls is a big fail! I have had many calls go straight to voicemail bc it cant keep a signal and I am 300 meters from the tower! Finger print scanner fails and I must open camera and close to get finger print scanner to work. Battery drain has increased. Not happy so I am.switching to my nexus 6. Responsiveness is better with update.

When the screen goes off it loses the cellular network. Only way to get it back is to toggle airplane mode. Very irritating. Need to keep data roaming on our zero connectivity.

    My issues:
    - Battery drain.
    - No need complex call/pickup animations/ (lagging).
    - Lost call/message alarm and viberation occasionally.
    - Screen brightness can't control when open Kindle app.
    - Can't delete photos directly in native camera app.

For the native camera app -- can't you just swipe right to view the previous photo and if you don't like it flick up? Seems to delete on my OP2.

One MAJOR issue that I've noticed on occasion is that my OP2 will select the wrong timezone randomly. I'm in PST and it sometimes is automatically set to EST. I've missed some alarms because it was set within a 3 hour period that it skipped.... I've had to work around this by manually forcing the timezone.

While 2.0.2 solved heating issues for me, 2.1.0 is causing battery drain (3-4hours idle time max)

The biggest problem is WiFi dropping, hearing own voice while calling someone & hell lot of heating after their useless update.I hope they will soon update oxygen to eradicate these issues. & 4GB RAM alongwith snapdragon 810! - I was left to some deep thinking after playing asphalt8 with my friend who owns a moto G. His phone was loading the game faster than mine!

Finger print sensor/home button' s unresponsive quite often. A native photo/gallery app required. Push mail is absent. The above are a few things among others required in the oxygen OS update.

    Expecting six fixes-
    1. Need easy and faster access to the screen to switch between 2G, 3G, 4G (currently using an app widget), along with mobile data on/off - all in one place. Also, 'actual' network switching was a lot faster on Oneplus-1 running on CM12
    2. Battery drain issue
    3. Fingerprint scanner's occasional malfunctioning
    4. ColorOS camera APK files worked in Oneplus-1 CM12 but not working in Onplus-2 Oxygen.
    5. The bottom three buttons are currently configurable for double tap and long press. Also add single tap configurability.
    6. Heating issue

Lag in games.. Battery drain upto 30% at night with no usage.. General battery drain got faster.. Heating issue IMPROVED.. Phone sometimes just hang... Fingerprint sensor getting more inaccurate... As in works less number of times .. Specially after a call ends,it never works... Wifi just drops randomly..

I hope to see a good update soon.

I had a battery drain issue, and saw that Google App was using up a LOT of power (up to 25% by the end of the day) - more than the Screen was! I found that clearing Google App Cache solved this issue completely, and my battery now lasts a full day or longer. Hope this helps.
