I have been trying to do a software update on my samsung galaxy mega but keep getting the error message operating system on device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Also SU found. What can i do about this?? Thanks for any help.

If your device has root access, first, you need to reinstall the last available Stock ROM for your device and then you try to update it. However, you need to reinstall the Stock ROM in it.

Your galaxy mega must have been rooted. The solution is as suggested by AC&MM.

It says my phone is not rooted. So why would I still see the thing SU found?? How do I reinstall last available stock ROM?? Pretty stupid questions I'm sure. 😲

Access this site https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/search/galaxy%20mega/ and choose your phone model to download the right Stock ROM.

Here's another stupid question. Do I have to download the firmware onto my computer and then onto the phone or can I download it directly onto the phone and install it from there?? Maybe the fact that I downloaded the firm ware onto the phone and tried to open it from there is why I couldn't open file??

I don't think it's a stupid question. It's hard to do anything when you don't know how to do or you have doubts about that. You need to use a PC to install it onto your phone. Use Odin to do that.

Well, was going to start this until I couldn't find my phone's model number which is SCH-R960. Its android version 4.4.2. Can I go by just that alone?? Funny thing is, it says it has all versions. Unless I'm just not seeing it. 😣

Ok. Gonna try it shortly. After I download this, can I do everything else on this website or do I have to go back to other one?? Honestly, you should be getting paid for this!! 😄

I believe this one will work. You just need to download the Stock ROM from this site and follow the tutorial from those ones I posted before.
By the way, as I said before: Don't worry, just be happy.

So more than likely I'm assuming that once I download onto my computer then I have to open it on my computer since it's a zip file??

Seems that your device is rooted. Also make sure that you are having storage on device.

Yes and now I wonder if I can upgrade it to nougat. Because I see samsung doesn't offer anymore upgrades of any kind for this. I'm running kitkat and I can't even do something as simple as download a bold font. Says phone doesn't support it. If not nougat, do you have any suggestions??

I think the only way to solve this problem it's to install a Custom ROM onto your device. You may choose one like LineAgeOS, ViperOS, Resurrection Remix, etc. You just have to search for one that's compatible with your device.
