I had my phone in my back pocket and I suddenly felt it drop in temperature very quickly. When I removed it from my pocket it felt as though it had been in the freezer. I immediately gave it to my wife so she could witness this. She thought I *had *put it in the freezer. It warmed up nearly as quickly as it became cold. My question is, is this even possible???

probably just phone's cover get colder, not battery and other components

Do some test before you visit the service center
1. Use the phone till the phone will switch off. Now recharge it till the charge complete till 100%, do this twice or thrice. It resolve the battery meter bug.
2. Plug your moto G with computer and check if it is charging or not, it should show charging, do some file transfer or file manipulate. Now if you plug off your Mobile from computer, it will show very less amount of battery life. It is another well known battery bug. You need to repeat the first step.
