This is why experts think the Galaxy S5 is better than the Galaxy S6

The Galaxy S5 has been placed above the Galaxy S6 in Consumer Reports latest smartphone rankings. The new list, updated last week, put the Galaxy S5 in first place, followed by the LG G3, iPhone 6, and then the Galaxy S6 in fourth.

As you may have been able to predict, it is the storage and battery options that killed the Galaxy S6’s chances. With no microSD card slot and a non-removable battery, the consumer reviews specialist determined that the Galaxy S5 was the better product choice.

In a video discussing why the Galaxy S6 didn't make the grade, Maria Rericich, head of electronics testing at Consumer Reports, stated that Consumer Electronics "normally expect the new [smartphones] to surpass the predecessor" but in this instance the customization options, in addition to the fact that the Galaxy S5 is also water resistant and has better battery life, meant the Galaxy S5 clinched it.

Though the positives of the Galaxy S5 were highlighted, such as the rapid charge and Qi wireless charging capabilities, it wasn’t enough to bring it to victory. Check out the explanation below.

Consumer Reports delivers unbiased product testing and ratings, research, public education, and more to provide reliable information on consumer products. Since going live, their "Why Samsung's Galaxy S6 doesn't top our ratings" video has received almost 300 upvotes, and almost 200 downvotes.

We put the Galaxy S6 at the top of our best Android smartphones list after finding its combination of unbeatable camera, sumptuous display, and sublime performance better than anything else the Android market has too offer.

Do you agree that the Galaxy S5 is better than the Galaxy S6? Sound off in the comments below.

Umm..i've owned Samsung Galaxy S2 ,3, 4, 5 and 6. My S6 was stolen and I bought another Galaxy S5 because it is a much better phone all around especially price vs. features like adding a battery or extra storage SD card and the water and dust proof rating. S5 Phone is super-fast. The USB 3.0 charger and data allows you to charge and transfer much faster. This time I bought the verizon "Gold" last was tmobile black. Easier to root but verizon seems more...stable?? Is that the word? I had to remove a lot of verizon bloat-ware but no problem with storage as with the S6 because I can add up to 256GB YES 256GB OF EXTRA STORAGE that you can't do with the S6. Not even close. Also, i have 2 extra batteries and a wall charger so I don't need to run around and look for an outlet if my battery runs low when I'm out. I just swap out the batteries no problem. Yes S5 is a much better phone. I agree 100 percent with Consumer reports. A long time Samsung Galaxy customer and I. T. Professional.

I have a S5 and my brother has a S6 Edge Plus. Aside from all the beauty and design of the S6 Edge Plus compared to a relatively bland S5, I would take a 32GB version of the S6 ANY DAY OF THE YEAR!!! My S5 is plagued with so many issues that I want the put it through a wall somethime. It constantly freezes while using Messaging, the speaker failed, battery life is abysmal, it will randomly reboot.....so, ya, IMO my S5 stinks. I am very tech savvy and have done all the possible remedies to fix these issues. Factory resets didn't help the freezing during messaging which is the biggest irritant. I am working on warrantee replacement since I have insurance on the phone but I am really considering getting a One Plus One 2 instead. I will warrantee the S5 and sell it to offset some of the money needed to get the 1+1 2 or 1+1 3 which is due out soon. I have been with AT&T since 1999 but with their Next plan, loyalty mean NOTHING.

The galaxy s5 is an overall better phone due to its durability and also it sticks to your palm better without having to put a case on it. Camera on both phones is practically the same with the s6 having a wider aperture and ois apart from that basically the same. With the s5 i can text in the rain and not really pay much attention to the droplets where on the s6 youd wipe the phone over just to be on the safe side

My s5 is also MUCH faster than my s6 with 1/2 the memory and the same apps. My s6 is so sluggish I've gone back to using the s5 for more intense apps.

Not the fuck! The S6 surpasses the S5 by a country mile. I should know, I have them both. Adaptive battery with fast- and wireless charging, as well as UFS storage is the future. And the future is now!

It's very sad to see that companies can that easily brainwash and manipulate people... but it's no surprise.

I think the s6 is a great phone......but it shouldve been an improvement on the s5 like the entire s line has been.......rather than a completely different phone....which is exactly what it feels like. In other words, it should've included everything on the s5 and more.

I owned an S5, and now an S6 Edge. Yes, I miss the SD card and yes, the battery is ungood, but the S6 is faster, looks and feels better and the camera is nails. Cloud storage and wireless charge pads make the things the S6 is missing less missed. Having owned a LoopPay device, I think the Samsung Pay will be a killer app and end this discussion.

They way I see it, If I wanted a device that doesn't allow me to up grade the memory or change out the old battery on my own I would have bought an Apple phone. Instead when I am ready to upgrade from my Note 2, it will be the S5 or I will leave Samsung.

And the winner is the LG G3.Sorry samsung but you've lost sight of what the consumer wants.I'm not a Samsung hater.I was with samsung up to the S3 which is still a very useable phone.I shopped several phones before deciding on the LG G2.Jury is still out on the G4,Other than the best in class camera im not convinced it's enough to warrant a upgrade.

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH YOU AS FAR AS THE G5 BEING BETTER THAN THE G6. I WAS SO UNHAPPY WITH THE G5. AND BEING WATER RESISTANT MADE NO CHANGE IN THE WAY I FELT. I HAD WAY TOO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE G5. FROM THE FIRST DAY I GOT IT. AND WISHED I HAD THE G4 BACK. YOU NEVER MENTIONED THAT THE G6 WENT BACK TO THE UNIVERSAL PLUG. AND SO MANY OTHER THINGS THAT THE G6 CAN DO. THAT THE G5 CAN NOT.

THEY ONLY THING I WOULD AGREE WITH. IS I HAVE THE EDGE. AND CONSIDERING HOW MUCH MORE I PAID FOR THE EDGE, COMPARED TO JUST THE G6. I WAS A BIT DISAPPOINTED. I DO LIKE THE FEEL OF THE EDGE IN YOUR HAND. BUT, THE SIDE READOUTS FOR WEATHER ECT, AND THE DIFFERENT COLORS FOR ONLY A FEW CONTACTS. I THINK SOMETHING BETTER COULD HAVE BEEN DESIGNED. THAT WOULD HAVE MADE THE SIDE OF THE EDGE MORE APPEALING, AND FICTIONAL. THAT IS THE ONLY THING I BELIEVE THAT THEY WASTED TIME. WHEN DESIGNING THE EDGE.
WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDED, WAS A BETTER CHOICE OF WHAT ONE COULD SETUP FOR READ OUT WITH THE DIFFERENT COLORS. THAT ACTUALLY LIT UP THE WHOLE PHONE.

OVERALL, I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE G6 EDGE. AND THE LONGER I HAVE IT. THE MORE I LEARN AND LIKE ABOUT IT.
FYI, AS FAR AS APPLE IS CONCERNED. THEY HAVE BEEN WAY TOO INCLUSIVE FOR YEARS. AND I BELIEVE IT IS FINALLY CATCHING UP WITH THEM. SURE, THE ARGUMENTS HAVE BEEN ABOUT HOW SECURE THEY ARE. THEY CAN AFFORD TO PUT SO MUCH IN SECURITY. BECAUSE ONE HAS TO BUY ALMOST ALL APPLE PRODUCTS. JUST TO USE ANY OF THEIR DEVICES, CPU, TABLETS AND SOFTWARE.

    THANK YOU

Bottomline the Galaxy S6 is the future of the Galaxy S line with best in class camera, industry leading performance, and great screen technology nothing else is better from this standpoint especially from a design standpoint.

Truth be told if you are a true Samsung owner of products then you already own a Samsung handset with a sdcard and removable battery those are the past.

the Galaxy S6 and S6Edge stomps the mess out of the S5 which didn't help Samsung from a market share or revenue standpoint it was a sad joke.

If expandable storage is the past then my use of Samsung may become the past too. The fact is there is just not enough internal storage on the phones to do what I want to do and the cloud is completely useless if you are travelling. I may well switch to HTC or LG for my next phone

S5 is not better than S6, S5 is more convenient than S6. SD Card and Dust and Water resistance are the most useful feature on the S5

I have always liked Consumer Reports. They base their reviews on the products function and user friendliness, than just its looks. Most reviewers ( Including andriodpit )out there today base the onions on the looks of the phones before its functions and features. This is why we ended up with an I phone copy from Samsung instead of a great phone

I'm sticking with my S5. The S6 does not seem like the next iteration of a great phone. It feels like it was developed by a group of people that didn't even know the S5 existed and what was successful about it.
