It was a well understood myth that only Android 2.2 Froyo was capable enough to handle Flash 10.1. But now as the story unfolds, you can install Flash 10.1 onto your Android 2.1 Eclair powered handsets without any issues. The absence of a JIT compiler and other Froyo goodies might cause some performance issues, but in the end you will be able to surf Flash enabled websites without any problems. Flash10.1-for-eclair

Here is the step by step guide on how to get Flash 10.1 on your Android 2.1 Eclair geared phone

(Rooted Phone Not Needed):

1. The first step is to download flash_for_21.zip to your computer and extract the .apk file.
2. Now navigate to the market and install “Apps Installer” utility to your phone.
3. Now connect your Android phone to the computer and copy .apk file to your SD card.
Make sure that it is in SD card root and not in a sub folder.
4. After this launch “Apps Installer” on your phone and follow the on screen instructions to install flash_for_21.apk file.
5. After installation is complete, simply reboot your phone and there you go! You now have Flash 10.1 on your phone.

This method has been tested and confirmed operational for Google Nexus One, Droid Eris and HTC EVO 4G on stock Android 2.1 Eclair.

hmm...well, I feel let down, as I can't watch videos on the first flash site I visited. It said I needed Flash 9, so I guess 10.1 only allows me to visit certain sites optimized for mobile devices or something? :( I was hoping for more usability that this, but it is an improvement.

I will admit I'm a novice to alot of this but will this work on unrooted phones. I have droid with 2.1. Will this work on droid? If will, unsure how to find SD root, downloaded file, unzipped, connected phone to computer but when open phone only see all my apps where do I find root? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well bad news for Motorola Droid.. couldn't get it to work.

However you folks will be getting 2.2 soon then you can just download it from the market.

Must be something to do with my HTC phone having some extras that don't come on most Androids that makes it work (tweaked Browser, Sense UI etc).

Tested both phones side by side: HTC Droid Eris worked; Motorola Droid didn't (used Sony Pictures Website which has Flash Ad on Main page)

Good News for us ERIS users through.. in the event that we don't get 2.2; at less this way we can have Flash 10.1

(Even installed Dolphin HD Browser on Motorola Droid and tested again: still no luck)

Side note for Douglas Carter: I noticed AdultSwim has a "Mobile site"

Just watched several videos at AdultSwim's website without any problems on my Eris.

Then the software must not have worked for my handset then. I checked the mobile site and still wasn't able to watch any videos =/ luckily Android 2.2 is supposed to be very close for the Galaxy S, so it likely won't be very long.

I installed flash 10.1 on my Sprint HTC Hero with os 2.1. The videos worked great, and the games played but had some control problems. Thanks for this tip Jay!

Think most important feature to me of 2.2 is to be able to put apps on sd card to help with performance issues of internal to full, hate having to install/unistall apps. Use on the fly backup which helps to keep easily accessible.

I believe that HTC said any phone released in 2010 will be receiving Android 2.2, and seeing as how the Wildfire was released in 2010 (right?), it should be getting Android 2.2. Usually the ability to download Adobe Flash 10.1 comes with Android 2.2, however, your phone has a very small screen and a low-end processor that might not be powerful enough to support Adobe Flash 10.1. You'll just have to wait and see.

The new processor, 528MHz probably, may be enough to theoretically support it (especially thanks to the smaller amount of pixels due to the small screen), but I am fairly sure that the usage will not be on par with the higher end phones, however, it may still work half-way decent. Most Flash enabled phones are sporting 600MHz minimum clock speeds on a better CPU architecture, so don't be surprised if the performance isn't what you expected.

I know the Mototrola Cliq received it's 2.1 install yesterday so I am probably premature, but has anyone installed this for a Cliq with the new update? I am hesitant to do it as the Droid had issues and the OS on the Droid is similar to that on the Cliq. I have had enough Force Close and restart issues with my phone I was hoping someone knew if it had been successful before I gummed up the works further...

justJay said he couldn't get it working on the Motorola Droid, so it likely will not work on the CLIQ either. I believe that this method is for HTC phones in general, so you may not have any luck trying this with your CLIQ. If you do give it a try however, let us know how it works.

Don't anticipate it's a botheration with the app. Beam currently alone works on ARMv7 devices. The SF has a ARMv6 processor and cannot handle beam currently. Unless Adobe decides to accompany it for ARMv6 devices, the alone way is beam lite really.

I tried it out on my Huawei Ascend M860 and it did nothing. Any site I tried always said I needed to install flash. Plus after I installed it my phone started partially rebooting whenever I would close out of most of my apps. So I uninstalled it. It seems it won't work on my phone.

The method justJay describes seems to only for for HTC devices running Android 2.1 (and possibly HTC Sense), so I would not have expected it to work on a device from Huawei.
