The astonishing results of our blind camera test

Right as the new year arrived, we published an article asking you to pick which of the top five smartphones of 2016 had the best camera. For over a week we left the poll open, so you could choose the best one from the blind test shots. Now, it's time to declare a winner...

The winner is...Camera A. With a total of 40 percent of the votes, the photos from Camera A were the obvious winner. The silver medal goes to Camera D with 27 percent. The third place went to Camera C with 17 percent, and a close fourth was Camera B with 14 percent. Just 2 percent of the nearly 700 votes went to Camera E, which was without question in the last place.

Which smartphone was which? We won't leave you hanging in suspense any longer:

So, it seems you chose the Sony Xperia X Performance as the winner. Disappointing, but not a surprise, the S7 Edge and HTC 10 were at the bottom of the pack, as they were the oldest 2016 smartphones of the group. Huawei and Google's smartphones in this competition had the benefit of being introduced later in the year. Were you surprised at the results?

Pretty soon, though, we'll have a new set of smartphones to test, with all the exciting 2017 phones about to drop at MWC in Barcelona. Once we have a chance to get our hands on the Galaxy S8, LG G6 and HTC's new flagship, we will do another blind test.

Did your top pick win? Which of the 2017 flagships will have the best camera? Share your opinions in the comments!

I think camera picture A got undue advantage over others as it was the 1st option and ppl didn't gave enough time to look all pictures of others camera phones. So in hurry ppl voted camera pictures A. Any ways now ppl can again go through these pictures they will find the difference and know that they have voted wrong camera phone. By the way all camera phones had great pictures in day time, some focusing differences were there but the real camera quality was shown by pictures taken in the night time and low light conditions therefore as a we can see Pixel, S G S7 edge and Huawei phone had Stunning night time photography. Sony phone never even came close to perfect photography in night time photos it was all messed up in wrong focusing area and inaccurate colour.. I voted for camera phone D, one can see why.. And camera phones C & D were equally good. I think it's just good luck for Sony phone in this poll.

Sour looser, it was a blind camera test simple so why the fuss just because the majority of people are like sheep and buy a Samsung if in Europe. Asia people go for a Chinese brand like Huawei if a different phone outperforms just take it like adults. At the end of the day they are only phones don't get worked up about it, that's why I have a Blackberry so as not to get caught up in all these arguments as who has the best phone.

Hmmm..... I'm surprised that the S7 edge wasn't the winner cause too many reviewers think that there's no better camera. And then there's the Pixel XL which is being claimed as the best camera out there but it to wasn't the winner either. But this shows that we all see photo quality differently.

The likes of Samsung are very powerful and influential when their phones are being tested. This is not the first time this has happened, and anyway at DxO Mark the Sony X Performance is up at the top with Samsung S7 Edge and HTC 10 on the same amount of points. There it's the Pixel who has the best camera score, mind you only by 1 point.

The LG V20 has one of the best cameras and should have been included in the test.
