Asus Zenfone 3 and 4 can rejoice at getting Oreo, but there's been no official support for the earlier lines (such as Zenfone 2) getting Nougat. However, several unofficial ROMs exist that can get you close enough to Nougat if you're really dying to upgrade.

Lenovo is now running things over in Moto land, but given the near-stock nature of the devices' software, there is little reason why timely updates should not continue as usual. The rollout of Marshmallow did see some upsetting exclusions, however, but it looks like Lenovo has decided to be a little more proactive with the Moto family for Nougat, and plenty of devices are also slated to get Android Oreo.

Motorola has confirmed that the other devices which will receive the Android Nougat update are: the Moto G Plus (4th Gen) Moto G Play (4th Gen), Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen), Moto X Style, Moto X Play, Moto X Force, Droid Turbo 2, Droid Maxx 2, Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play and the Moto Z Play Droid. They mentioned this was the full list, so if you don't see your phone here, you're out of luck. For exact roll out dates for your country and carrier, Motorola updates its software update info here.

As for the OnePlus X, its hardware doesn't live up to the requirements for Nougat, sadly.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo (SM-G903) was spotted on the benchmarking site GFXBench running Android 7.0 Nougat, which means Samsung may be testing the update in anticipation of a rollout. Xiaomi has an inspiring update policy, but, even if the device gets a MIUI update, it doesn't necessarily mean that it gets an Android version update too. This is the unfortunate case for owners of the Mi 2, 2S, Mi 3 and Mi 4 though, as the hardware doesn't live up to the requirements for Nougat.

Incompatible smartphones

Nougat supports the Vulkan API for top-notch gaming graphics, and this requires hardware that can support Open GL ES 3.1. Mandatory support of OpenGL ES 3.1 was introduced just before Android 7.0 Nougat was finalized by Google. That means almost all the top phones from 2014 and those with Snapdragon 800/801 are inherently incompatible with Nougat. This includes the Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 compact, Nexus 5, OnePlus X, Moto X (2014), HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5.

If your device is too old to receive Nougat, see our article on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Unofficial updates via custom ROM

If you want to get Android Nougat but there is no official release for your device, you may consider flashing a here, if you want to learn more or find out if your device is now compatible.

Does your phone have Android Nougat? What do you think about the Android update?

it wasn't till I switched from an unlocked nexus 5x to a Huawei p9 plus that has been unlocked from its original O2 set up that I realised how poor the update situation is. It seems that, even though this phone is unlocked I still have to wait for O2 to get their ass in gear before I can have Nougat. You've got to ask what is the incentive for the networks to issue this update when they know that at least some of us will capitulate and buy a new phone if they drag their feet enough. Meanwhile it would be helpful if you guys could publish an article on when each network will get around to the update rather than repeatedly telling us what the manufacturers are doing, and not just in the USA. I suspect that here in the UK the networks have agreed to synchronise their releases rather than compete to be first.

The honor 5X isn't getting the update to nougat, or emui 5.0, you're reading old news. There was, at one time, when honor said it would. The closer it got to the 2 year update policy, they changed their minds, and released a maintenance update that solved bugs mainly( I've been following this ever since I bought it). I waited, until late december, when they said no. Well I can get nougat other ways, and I did. TWRP'ed it ,rommed it with aicp rom, now it has 7.1.1 nougat on it. Nougat works very well, better than marshmallow, smoother, more responsive, native floating windows, substratum theme engine( as part of the rom), magisk root manager, etc.. Don't wait like I did, learn and apply, you'll be much happier in the end.

Probably I'm not the first to write this, but this is ridiculous. When Microsoft comes out with a new windows version, nearly all devices can be used to install. The same for Ubuntu, Mint, Linux and others. Why is it not possible to get any android version running on any device. Are they so different? I think the way this OS is distributed, it is done for the purpose to make customers or users to upgrade to a new phone.
The new features in an OS should benefit everybody and not just a chosen few. I believe that there are many people who buy a new phone, just to experience the new features of the latest OS. I call this customer manipulation.

I updated my Xperia X Performance (F8132) and now the battery percentage never reads more than 20%. Luckily it actually charges the battery but I can't tell where it is at all day. I know it worked prior to update because I had to charge the phone to above 50% to complete update and I saw it say 52% when I started update. I've read numerous accounts of Apple having this issue but so far haven't found a fix for androids..just when I bragged these phones up too.

The Lenovo+Motorola ecosystem apart, Lenovo's standalone handsets such as the Vibe Series ( I own a Vibe K5 Note, an India specific product, a cracker of a fone in its price range, must admit) seem to have been completely forgotten in this update train.
I've posted on the Lenovo support website twice, I think, only to have my grouse cooped up with similar grumbles into some sort of forgotten flightless superthread at the dark margins of Lenovo's android evolution ark. Short of saying,"No Nougat for youse !! If yall think its comin', you must be stupid, stupid, stupid", Lenovo's service website has made us Vibe K5 note buyers feel like that queasy cousin-from-the-sticks in almost every way possible.
While its all to common for companies to focus on items that add to their topline, its their value offerings that ensure demand vitality and sustained recall/reorder rates, adding to marketshare. I hope Lenovo's head is not too far up its behind to smell whats wrong with their update policy (or lack thereof).

Tl;dr : Lenovo , gimme that update date, yo ..

How the hell are you going to say nougat is not compatible with the Galaxy S5? For starters it was when they had common sense and had unlocked bootloaders. So what you do is your root the damn thing comma put on a custom recovery which apparently is a rare thing now. And you can Flash what other operating system you feel like. I gave my old S5 to my daughter who is six and now she is rocking that S7 edge with nougat not to mention all the features that all the foreign companies get. My daughter's S7 Edge has like 15 more different shortcuts and icons than my S7 Edge does. Not to mention a fully functioning download booster which apparently is people in the US are too fucking stupid to use or our service providers cell towers are so crappy that they can't actually provide a service like that. If you have a Galaxy S5 go look and XDA for real custom roms that will blow these Samsung shitwizs out of the water. It's pretty bad when I'm trying to trade my S7 Edge for my old S5. At least then I can customize it. The volume in the speakers on the S7 Edge complete crap. S7 edge and a badass pair of headphones on full blast I can barely hear the music when there's any background noise and that's because of course you can modify the system files on the S7 heaven forbid you want your music did not sound like shit. But these phones are so cool and badass That was supposed to be like flies to a bug zapper and not realize all the shit that they're actually taking away. IOS 8 has any more amped up security Samsung can stick their whole Flagship right up my ass. Is it too much to have Dolby and Beats audio on my phone or do mommy and daddy Samsung think that that shouldn't work for me. Just the way they think I need 25 Samsung apps and 30 Sprint apps that non-stop run in the background draining my battery. Maybe in a private person and all I absolutely love my phone locked into settings that shares my shit with anybody in the goddamn United States. You go visit one website the checkout one product and then the next week you're getting ads promoting that same one product that you looked at. And if you want to be grounded or not a friggin leave go ahead and keep buying the new updated samshits. If I wanted my phone locked in fucking toddler mode I would said it that way. When I pay $1,000 for a God damn piece of electronics I would like to think that I can customize it how I want. It's funny for such great phones you guys have the shittiest audio I've ever heard I have to use a fucking headphone amplifier just hear the music over some noise. Until they start unlocking their bootloaders and let people do what they want with their own fucking Electronics I would tell you to go back to an S5 because right now I have Rhymes that will turn it into a Note 7 and S7 Edge and in S7 edge with nougat. Which you can also add on a custom recovery Dolby Beats and Viper. If you ask me the S5 is when they had some common sense and let people make some modifications to their device. Do you want your house to look like every other person's house on the Block or would you like to customize in a little bit? If the s8 has any security like this S7 I will definitely never owned a Samsung device ever again unless it comes bootloader unlocked. I love how Samsung and their carriers decide which features that I want on my phone. Freedom of choice. I also buy a Windows PC but at least I can change out the operating system and put on Linux if I feel like it since I'm the one that paid $1,000 for it. You treat everybody like clay molds assuming her the same exact people with the same exact taste. Do you know how many people I know use your S Health bullshit. Not one. But apparently it's a must have app because otherwise that's just one of the 20 ways that you use to constantly monitor every single fucking person. I root my phone just to add on Dolby and disable all the tracking bullshit you guys slip in my rom. I know this sounds crazy but how about the possibility of letting people control their own fucking devices that they paid a thousand fucking dollars for. And do you guys actually test your products before you send them out the door? I plugged in that S7 Edge to a pair of badass headphones that I have and when there's any background noise whatsoever I can barely even hear the Damned music. But once I rooted it and put on Dolby beats and Viper it sounded amazing but you can't have that we're all little Samsung clones with the same exact interests . apparently. With your track record of making City electronics that are blowing up whether the B cell phones are washers you think you would might take advice from other people. You think it don't but your shit definitely stinks. If the Galaxy S8 or the Note 8 has this half-assed bullshit security that stops you from making any modifications to my phone I will take that thing and stick it up when you're Sprint employees asses. I don't tell you what you want and what you need I don't expect you to do the same. Besides no one wants your 30 Samsung and 30 Sprint apps running in the background Non-Stop. Call me crazy but what do you think people want a removable battery because they know yours are shit. Not to mention you're losing a lot of people because of this or someone pays a fucking thousand dollars for something let them customize it the way they want to fucking customize it. Unless they're modifying it to fucking hack Samsung and Sony and shit then what big of a deal is it? You think you guys just got this fucking perfect phone? Yeah just as perfect is that note 7 grenade you guys call the phone. Get your shit right listen to your people because I guarantee everyone is jumping ship with your Sam shit products. Not to mention you guys have top-of-the-line Hardware and bottom of the line performance explain that one. I can because I have 98 fucking apps running in the background apparently everybody wants to use Samsung health. I'm pretty sure in America when you're monitoring cell phones and stalking people and tracking your every movement it's called harassment and stalking and I'm pretty sure that's a felony

Brian, I agree 200%. Had the S5, loved it, cracked the screen badly, went to replace it, and they were giving S7s with VR goggles, and software for CHEAPER than a new S5. I still wanted the S5, but gave in at the Verizon store. BIG MISTAKE!
I'm fighting with the S7 apps almost everyday to STOP. Stop running, stop notifications, stop updates, STOP!
      Whose phone is it anyway.
Sound level is low as you mentioned, I listen to music/podcasts a lot .... it sucks now.
My 2 year old S5 battery could still go 2 days with moderate use. In 2 years we will all be carrying battery packs, and cords plugged into our 2 year old S7s.
My autocorrect and auto fill are putting in strangers e-mail addresses??? WTH?
My GPS has screwed me 4 or 5 times. My location is 2-3 blocks off. That's big in the city. Never happened with S5.
S Health just updated 64MB app I NEVER use. The VR Oculus software is ridiculous. STOP!
I have a permanent, "Contact Permission needs to be updated" notification. No thanks.

I swear these device manufacturers and service providers are now making as much revenues for collecting OUR DATA as selling the devices.

I thing the S7 has double the RAM, and double the storage FOR SAMSUNG to collect App data, not for me.

If you find a place that still has NEW S5s. BUY ONE! I don't feel confident "rooted" my S7.

I personally HATE Nougat 7.1.1 took forever to get the OTA update option.
finally get it, and battery drain is nasty, doing the same thing always did, chews up at least 20% more battery at minimum (on marshmallow the stock one came with phone) only had to charge the phone once per week minimum, usually when shut phone down on Friday, would not actually have to charge it until monday maybe tuesday sometimes, with Nougat, monday through to maybe thursday if am lucky, use it nowhere nearly as long have to turn off nearly everything or battery drain is that much more pronounced.

the battery meter used to show the day AND time approximate ofc, now it just shows estimated hours, not day nor time, basically useless, as it is NOT calibrated.

with the stock OS on my phone (Moto G4 Play XT1607) I was easily able to get a nice volume booster because the default volume levels were super low even maxed out, they did one update (forget the number) to the next "new" version of marshmallow, they did some security updates in I think was september 2016, nougat was available in like december 2017...battery life, functionality, volume levels every update got worse and worse, but if you wanted the security updates only you are SOL, because the moment you install these it seemed to reset/reinstall things you turned off/do not want or use.

fc android does not make a 1 click option to revert OS upgrades, and if you send email to Moto, they say "impossible to backtrack to factory OS" yet they know full well that is a BS excuse, they just do not want to provide the option, they rather you scrub your phone and pay shipping to them (possibly pay extra charges if they deem phone was damaged) and THEY will reformat to the "factory" version, instead of giving YOU the option to backup your data, reinstall the stock OS, put back all your files etc etc, and only opt in for the security specific options.

night and day superior to what Apple does (from my experience) but, still the same BS
put out updates that keep your phone safe/secure put reduce functionality and screw around with the GUI and you have to learn and reset everything all over again, they really should keep security and the UI/settings 100% completely separate from each other and build in a user accessible option in the "control panel" of the phone when you are actually on it to backtrack changes you do not like..something as "simple" as clear partition data, "power off phone, hold down this button and this button, then press this one and this one, select this option, then do this, then wait for 5-10+ mins" you follow their EXACT instructions and it DOES NOT WORK.

Nougat is a nightmare, if I had any other viable option, I would throw my phone in the garbage..a "smartphone" is useful, very nice to have, but they are wicked expensive (in some cases) are easily damaged (in most cases) upgrades to the OS that you are often enough forced into or lose total functionality (mostly Apple, but mana Android as well forcing users to upgrade the OS OR cannot access what they were able to a few days prior because of a few kb/mb "patch" that does NOTHING but lock customers out from accessing thier software/hardware that has already been paid for)

anyways....Moto "policy" is 2 OS upgrades, even if those upgrades have not been fully tested to make sure they are not WORSE than the one that came with the phone in the first place (such as battery life)
but here we are, got 1 free that made worse, updates that made worse still "but are more secure" and the "final one" that took 1 year longer for them to give access to that was worse still "but has some pretty nifty features"

the modern phone, easily breakable, costs more than it should considering they tend to be crazy low cost to make in the first place, and little "features" such as easy to find and easily replaced batteries and headphone jacks "oh we made the phone thinner and got rid of things like that because that is not what our customers want" nahh we want to overpay for something that get progressively easier to break and constantly gets updated to make it less and less functional (overall) then it did when it shipped (thanks apple, you set in motion a bunch of #$%#$% by the industry at large)

done venting now, wont fix anything, because the "powers that be" do not give a damn, that much is obvious

Things move forward with Android 7, new phones have this by default but i have a question as these new versions of Android roll out, its connectivity.

I am no expert with software , i have a mate 9 on Android 7, i purchased it last December. I also purchased a new car, a citroën c4 aircross. My phone connects to other vehicles no problem, even other new cars but it will not connect to my c4 via Bluetooth . I have contacted citroën and was told its due to the phone having android 7 which the car does not support? They are looking at it but my question is, are phones moving forward so quickly that other devices will have problems keeping up with the software as it appears that not all phones seem backwards compatible? Has anyone else had this issue, or a solution?

In general, the device does not need to support a specific Android version, but a specific Bluetooth version. But this is mostly important for certain functions. You should be able to connect the two either way. The problem with Bluetooth is.. well, it still has its problems. It's not the first time that a car system does not connect to a phone. Sadly there isn't any real solution if it simply does not work. I remember a customer when I worked at Vodafone who bought a new and a new phone and came back really annoyed because he thought we made a mistake giving him that specific phone. He switched to an iPhone, just to realize that that phone didn't work either with his car. He never really found a solution :(

As Samsung missed out the Note 5 in Europe- don't know why, a bigger market than USA- then I think Samsung should have made an effort to put Nougat out for Note 4. Nougat 7.1.1 works great on my old S3 (Gti9300) which has only 1gb of internal memory--the Note has 3 gb. What the S3 doesn't have is any bloatware. Note has a fair bit, not so much as S5, but still too much. Samsung probably never look at these forums, a pity because they themselves could learn from them.
Looks as if I will have to go down the rooting road to get updates.

Indeed you will receive nougat soon, as promised by samsung,.... soon after the s8 range is released. They do it every year won't surprise me if it's the same this year. They will probably test untill February/March or so and then carriers etc. will "test" and add bloatware and all of their rubbish apps and then the S8 will be released and after a month or so you will see nougat if you are lucky... very lucky. And if you install non-carrier firmware you might get it a month or so before carrier versions. So not a advantage in either case as the s8 will have it already if you purchase the s8.

We all always want updates, but why would anyone feel "cheated?" The paragraph under the heading "Incompatible Phones" explains that this isn't an arbitrary decision, but rather one based on compatibility of hardware. "... this requires hardware that can support Open GL ES 3.1. " This requirement will exclude many phones with older processors and graphics.

So that we are clear I read the article here. But it still doesn't give a lock down date.

According to iTech Post, many Samsung devices are scheduled to get the the Nougat update soon, possibly in December. Now, T-Mobile posted that it's "preparing to deliver a software update" for the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Just reading the comments a bit further back...people are still waiting for their 7.0 update...sometimes delays in updates are brought about by the carrier you are using.
For example, here in Australia, Telstra holds updates back because they are 'testing' them for 'compatibility'...one of the many reasons I don't use them anymore.
We haven't had a single issue since we started with Optus...just sayin'

    FOR LG USERS

Last year LG got its flagship phones on the latest version of Android within just two months of it hitting Nexus devices. That might not sound that impressive, but trust us, that’s seriously speedy in Android update terms.
Although the Korean manufacturer is currently remaining tight-lipped on its Android Nougat plans, we’re quietly confident that at least a couple of its latest handsets will be on the latest version of Android in a similar timeframe this time round. The most likely candidates are the modular LG G5 and high-end LG V10 as well as last year’s LG G4 and, of course, the LG-made Nexu X5

I still have the old phone (S2) and guess what? XDA developers wrote CM13 wich is in fact Marshmallow for this phone. The Rom runs smoothly and without fail ever.
