Top reasons why Android is better than iOS
Android and iOS are the two most popular mobile operating systems around. In the hyper-competitive tech world there can only be one winner, and we believe it's Android. Here are our top reasons why you're better off owning an Android phone rather than an iPhone.
Android has more apps
The Google Play Store is where most Android apps can be found. The App Store is the app marketplace for Apple (iOS) devices. There are more apps available in the Google Play Store than in the App Store. At the moment there are a little over 2 million available for the App Store, whereas the Google Play Store has 2.5 million.
In addition to there being more apps in the Google Play Store in general, there are also more free apps. Of the 2.5 million total apps for Android, 2.3 million of these are free. That's more free apps for Android than the total number of apps you get from Apple. And while there are some quality concerns over free Android apps, there are more options to choose from and you can try more apps out without any concerns about the costs.
Android is more customizable
While some people are quite content with the homogeneity offered by iOS, those of us who like to see a phone as an extension of ourselves want to tweak it. You can even completely replace the software on some Android devices.
Android devices let you change just about every aspect of their on-screen appearance – from the keyboard, to the homescreen launcher, to your email app. If you get CyanogenMod, you can pretty much strip away any unnecessary features that come pre-loaded on your phone.
Check out some Android customization options below:
There's an Android phone for everyone
Need a rugged phone that you can take mountain-biking or rock-climbing? Get the over 24,000 devices from 1,300 brands.
With each generation of Apple devices, you basically get three different options (sometimes only two): small, medium and large. The sizes are basically the biggest differences in the devices. Sure, there are also variations in display or hardware but they're all essentially the same phone.
There is a wider array of price ranges
Let's face it, sometimes we feel like spending a ton of money on our smartphones and other times we don't. If you're upgrading to the next generation of iOS devices, then you've got just a couple of different choices – and all of them are expensive.
There's an Android phone out there for every price range. You can pick up a $20 Alcatel Pixi Glitz or jump into a $800 (starting price) Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The choice is yours but the point is that there is a choice. Apple won't release a phone under $500, so you're quite limited.
You don't have to use iTunes
Apple is a pioneer of hardware and software design, but iTunes – which is required to transfer music between your iPhone and computer – is a bloated mess. Uninstalling it is a nightmare too, to the extent that Apple published an extensive guide for how to fully remove iTunes from your PC.
Android users don't need iTunes, and are given many more choices for music services and purchases in general. More and more services are expanding to Android and not just for music but movies, TV shows, games and many more. Heck, you can even get iTunes on Android if you want to.
You're integrated with Google
Android is an open source project called AOSP (Android Open Source Project) that is led by Google but not owned by it. Google uses this to make its version of Android, which is then used by the other manufacturers. That said, Google services are an integral part of Android and are a good reason to pick up one of these devices.
Google services are great and people are flocking to their convenience. How could we live without Google Maps, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Music or Google Chrome? When integrated, these services make our lives so much easier and Apple just isn't keeping pace.
Android keeps up with technology
Apple moves slowly, while Android races ahead at full speed. Individual technological innovations of Android devices are way ahead of Apple. Usually, Apple follows Android. For instance, the Huawei P9 was released with a dual rear camera system earlier this year and now the iPhone 7 Plus has it.
If there's a new innovation you're interested in then you should go with Android. Manufacturers of Android devices give you plenty of fresh choices for new technology. If you want last year's innovations jumbled into one device, then Apple is the best bet. Remember, many new features Apple touts are already in Android devices. The iPhone 7 is now water resistant, but Android did it first two years ago, and the Galaxy S7 still has a higher IP68 certification than the IP67 certification of the iPhone 7. Android started using haptic feedback two years ago as well. Apple marketing is clever. For instance, many people believe that Apple invented the smartphone.
Android has microSD card support
If you want more internal storage on Apple devices, then you need to either erase your stuff or buy another phone. Apple devices don't give you the option to expand with a microSD card. But many Android smartphones come equipped with microSD card access.
The difference between a 32 GB iPhone 7 and the 256 GB version is $200. But the SanDisk Ultra 200 GB microSD card only costs $72. That's a huge savings. But another great thing about microSD card support is you can customize how much storage you have for your phone. For instance, SanDisk microSD cards come in 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 200, and 256 GB. So if you just need an extra 64 GB you would only have to pay $20.
Android has removable batteries
When your iPhone has aged and no longer holds a charge as well, you have no choice but to replace the phone or plug in constantly. With Android, many phones like the LG G5 have removable batteries, so you can swap them out for a spare without skipping a beat.
Android has real multitasking
Sure, you can switch between apps and call it multitasking on iOS, but real multitasking is available on Android. Samsung for example, has had the Multi-Window feature for some time now. It allows you to display two apps on the screen simultaneously so you can do more than one thing at a time.
- How to use Samsung Multi-Window
Android offers more cloud storage
Google Drive offers a full 15 GB of cloud storage, while iCloud only gives 5 GB, which is not nearly enough for all of a person's documents or photos. If you want to upgrade your iCloud storage, again Apple is less generous than Google. It'll cost you $100 per year for an extra 50 GB with iCloud, and only $24 per year (at $2 per month) from Google for twice as much storage.
Android doesn't limit NFC
Apple brought NFC to the iPhone 6, but they only allow you to use it with Apple Pay. Since there's a lot of money to be made with mobile payments systems, this is likely Apple's attempt to hold off competition on that front. But, with Android, NFC chips been available in devices for years, and they work with everything they're meant to, including NFC tags and file sharing.
Do you agree with these points? What other ways is Android better than iOS? Let us know in the comments below!

Useful post. Android is one of the audiences demanding platform and also a flexible and easily customizable platform.
People saying s7 giving problem and blah blah blah blah, I owned a s7 edge and I haven't come across any problems up to now and it's over 1year old, no lag, no freeze, no problem, one of my friends bought an iPhone 7 just over 9 months and it's getting hot, battery draining fast, phone freezing etc
Those things you wrote are not relevant to my needs also 95 percent of people around me. So green opinion sign just fit perfectly.
iOS is better when it comes to stability and updates but Android is much more diverse affordable and cares about the customer.
Can anyone tell me how to add a profile picture.
Did you know that whenever you update your iPhone it slows down your phone?
Actually, sales numbers suggest those things are only relevant to about 12 percent of the people around you, depending on where you live.
Well for the first two reasons I say that those won't matter for a regular smartphone user. Not everyone likes launcher, icon packs, and so on custom apps, because all they need is a stable working device. And what if we have more apps in the playstore if half of it has malware or lacks quality. The 3rd and 4th reasons are almost the same, because when you talk about "a phone for everyone" you also mean "a pricetag for everyone", It is true that buying an iPhone is an expensive game but android phones let you choose, and that is a huge advantage. The fact that I don't have to use iTunes is not a big deal for me, because there is iTunes for android too. Being integrated within the Google ecosystem is one of the best things about android, it makes it easier to use our device. Having a microSD card is good and I always look in the specs weather or not the phone has a card slot or not. The removable battery is a big plus for me but I can live without it. Yes of course it has its advantages but at the end of the day if your phone has a good battery it just won't matter anymore. The cloud storage and NFC have their practical use and I use both of them but I could live without them. So if you really think about which OS is better in the end I have to say that either is good, maybe one is faster maybe the other gives more choice but they get the job done and that is the most important thing when I decide which phone to buy.

I agree absolutely with the points here, Except for one thing. Having owned an iPhone 5S, iPad mini, and an alternation of Samsungs and Xperias,...
Apps not only are better on iOS, they perform better.
Instagram Stories are actually usable on iOS, on Android you'd be better off with an eight year old Nokia than ANY Android because it will not focus. At all.
The same story with Snapchat.
Super Phantom Cat is an ad-ridden in-app-ocalypse on Android. On iOS, you pay ONCE and that's it.
And let's not get started with platform-exclusive apps you don't need a Computer Science Degree to use (ie. rooted)
iPhone using not happy feeling & Android using very happy and more features.
I like both for different reasons. Updates, support and stability go to Apple.
With Android you have the advantage of paying for what you can afford. With apple you have a choice and it's their choice of what their devices will cost the consumer. If you can't afford it too bad... Who wants to support such a company that don't care if the consumer can afford their products or not? Not to mention iphones selling for premium prices yet the technology inside it is already 2 years old by the time they are released?
With Apple it's their way or the highway. No respect. Now with Android, I can do "absolutely" anything I want. Who wouldn't want that?
People who don't care about customizing so basically anyone outside this forum
FREEDOM AND CHOICE. HOW SWEET IT IS. ALSO, SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER EXCUSE IF YOU HAVE IOS, BECAUSE YOU CAN'T CUSTOMIZE OR HAVE ACCESS TO THE OPERATING SYSTEM.
Android Rules!! 88% of the market.
i agree with this guy
Iphone does not shoot in RAW format. My Mod Z does.
Mod Z??
Sorry just came across this article. Android vs iOS has been a debate since a long time. I've used both the devices & currently I'm using the Galaxy S7. As for the phone, it does get my job done. Battery life is good. Feels good in the hand. But the only best part is the camera. And as for android, I did not do much customizing to the phone cuz the phone does lag alot or worse case, it restarts itself, which is pretty fu***** stupid for a phone which has so much of RAM. Android has never been a reliable OS & can never be one since its an opensource OS. And as for customizing, how much do you think a normal person will want to customize in their day to day lives? Just a email or message widget on their home screen? Or probably some news widget? And wow that just saves 3 seconds of your life! iOS has its disadvantages like using the iTunes & stuff, but the os is rather more reliable & much quicker to everyday tasks, with a half the RAM inside compared to the so-called flagship android devices. I mean my iPhone 6, which is 2 years old, is still faster than the Galaxy S7 which released 7 months back! And as for the updates, Apple supports their devices for upto 4 years! And android cannot even support its devices which is 18 months old (unless you get a Nexus or now known as the Pixel! F***! Talking about the price, don't you see even Samsung has been charging a high-end price for their phones? For the premium quality of the phone (which every other android device is trying to beat) to the stability of the os & the high quality apps & quick usage throughout my day, I would chose the iPhone hands down!
You are using a s7 and coming out with this rubbish, you must think all us s7 edge users are as stupid as you.
What??
Kind of agree since I'm currently using an iPhone 5s. My droid incredible didn't even last two years when it began crashing, randomly restarting, and not receiving Android OS updates cause they wouldn't support it. I didn't want to tempt fate again by having a device that wouldn't be supported before it hit the two year mark. Even Google states they only support OS updates for two years on their phones, so how much cheaper is it if to receive the OS update you need to buy a new phone? Just saying. And then there are quite a few Android phones that sell above $600 to have similar performance and capabilities of the iPhone so I'm not seeing that their is much of a cost difference. Again, just saying.
Hello, Dean L. you are the best suggestion good answer.
Do I miss Android, you bet I do. When my droid incredible was new and others I knew had iPhones I was an Android advocate, but when things went wrong then I wondered why the iPhone users were happy. That's when I learned that support was unavailable for my droid, and began looking into iOS and the iPhone. But I still wonder why Google puts apps and such out there for iOS, but then That's part of the reason why I use mostly Google apps on my iPhone. Google app does better for searches and such than Siri. Google calendar works more to my liking than the stock iOS calendar and for note taking and such I use Google Keep. I also use chrome or the Google app for my browsing most of the time and Gboard is awesome and I use it all the time. My issue with Android is the OS updates not going past the two year mark (unless you root and install Roms) and my other issues are the OS stability and support in general (as the phone manufacturers slow their support at around 18-24 months). Just my two cents.
Did you know that whenever you update your iPhone it slows down your phone? I had my iPhone 6s for 1 year, and it's already slowing down. It's lagging, restarting out of the blue, if there's a new update I can't update my phone because it doesn't support it, etc. I am so sick of my phone telling me that I have no iPhone storage left, or it would say iPhone backup failed...It is really annoying the heck out of me. I am going to be getting a new phone soon or whenever, but I don't know which one to get.
You should get the Pixel then. Problem solved.
Only 8 reasons I could think of a few more.
Like what?
Thank You, Someone who understands
latest android phones are now having fixed battry..... :)
Get a life Andy W, it's your choice. U should've check the spec of the phone before buying it. U want SD and removable batteries buy Samsung, they clearly said that u can't do that when u check the specs. Also multi windows and software updates, u have a Nexus for cry out loud, and if u don't get the update just flash it yourself with custom ROM, it's not that hard. And stop plz android has a variety of manufacturers, so it's not consistent but yes there's still developers out there who will update you device. IOS can't be upgraded if apple don't upgrade it, which is painful, cuz u won't get new stuff. But after all, your choice, android still beat iOS
I agree
It's called Jailbreaking
keep telling us why android is better than iOS,,maybe a couple people will believe it,,ANDROID is the biggest piece of shit ever devised by mankind,,oh and its rollout system for upgrades has to be the best in the world for APPLE,,i got 3 android devices not one has the same Android OS,,4.2,,4.4,,and 5.1,,,i fear 2 of them will never get to see lollipop,at least iOS,is available to ALL Apple device users, not just a select few like Android,,never owned an Apple device, but will in the future,,Android is going no where, its the best advertising Apple can get,,and after using Android, just re--enforces why it will never go anywhere,,in time some OS will come out and replace this piece of shit and it cant be soon enough
You are a LIAR! iOS updates are NOT available to all apple devices, they drop support for all other devices like the Ipod Touch 4th gen and Iphone3GS. Do your research before you comment with a huge lie! ANDROID BEATS IOS EVERYDAY!!!SCREW APPLE!
What are those devices like 8 years old?
I wonder why it is you're such a Apple supporter if you have 3 Android devices?
you say you have never owned an Apple device? tell me is it the non removable battery the lack of support for microSD or the fact that it's WAY overpriced that prevented you from buying one yet?
maybe if you would flash a custom ROM, you wouldn't feel so bad, stop bitching about your crappy phone(I'm not talking about Android, I'm talking about your hardware) and read about custom roms like cm where you could get nougat on your shitty phone.
And how many everyday users want to do that?
"i got 3 android devices not one has the same Android OS,,4.2,,4.4,,and 5.1,,,i fear 2 of them will never get to see lollipop,at least iOS,is available to ALL Apple device users, not just a select few like Android"
I don't understand what did u mean by this. iOS is available to all Apple devices? So you think 4.2, 4.4, 5.1 all are different OS. These all are different versions of android (hope you know). Similarly, iOS also has different version.
What is so wrong with new phones have the newest OS, don't find that a problem at all. All depends on when the phones came out what update they had at the time so of course they all are gonna have different versions. Both Android and IOS have been around since 2007 and from what I seen Android comes out with the great features and all Apple does is copy them, so that says a lot to me.
Num 11.
iOS (Apple) cheat on taxes.
Android (Google) does not.
Apple has never cheated on taxes. Please source your information. Every big company does taxes to their advantage, even Google. You're a fool if you believe Google is benevolent.
Andy W.......How about maybe the Nexus wasn't the right model phone for you? Sorry but I've tired of having to jailbreak ios to perform even the most basic mods. There is zero debate of android based units being superior to iphones which are essentially fancy palm pilots. Dumb good-lookings.
I know I will get slammed but I will keep my Windows phone. True, app deficit is a bit of an issue but it is quickly improving. The phone experience is excellent and it is fun to use.
I hope and pray that Microsoft doesn't get enough market share. Remember the days when we had to pay for every new Oh s roll out every 3 to 5 years? no thanks.
NFC. I have NFC tags in a lot of places to do many things. Yes, the iPhone has NFC but Apple only lets it work with Apple Pay. Nanny state strikes again.
Still no ad-hoc wifi. Android cannot connect to my aircrafts ads-b wifi output. IOS does instantly no jail breaking or rooting. For that reason I use my iOS for situational awareness, ie. multi function display. I guess not too many pilots use Androids. For calling a cheap dumb phone does fine.
Go to flightaware. com/ adsb/ android/. They tell you how.
Who the hell uses Ad-Hoc Wifi anymore?! Sure not me , I never used it because its so retarded
Bottom line, iPhone only have 'the company store' for content. Makes perfect sense, pay more get less!
Nice catch phrase, but can you back it up with an example. As far as I can see all the major criss platform app are the same price for android and iOS.
Yesterday at 10.40 got an update of the latest version of Lollipop to my Galaxy S4 it was a surprise & it's osum 🍭
And about 3 months late! Yay
as long as we get the update its fine...
If you want updates on time... Buy googles nexus.
That's like complaining Chevy won't fix your ford
1. The playstore is bloated with rubbish half finished apps.
2. You only have USB cables lying around because you have an Android phone. If you have apple stuff, you'd have apple cables. Which are WAAAAAAAAY easier to plug in BTW (especially in the dark).
3. Android is customisable, but only to a point, there are heaps if things I can't change on my nexus 5 (double tap to wake anyone).
4. Please tell me where I plug the SD card into my nexus 5?
5. ... and the replaceable battery?
AndroidPit please ban this troll...
Maybe the problem is your Nexus 5 and what you expect from it.. I always got Samsung products: S4, S5, smart tv, galaxy tab pro, and I do everything that my friends with ios don't do..in my S5 I have a 32gb sdcard, took photos in the swimming pool with it, can download torrents, etc..all of this for a fair price..Good luck doing that with Apple
I had a GalaxyS3 and It was a good phone but I upgraded to an LG G3 over a week ago and that phone is awesome because it has NO bloatware and its extremely fast with no lagging at all. Android Is the best. iOS&Iphones suck!
Based on your rantings, You are obviously not an android user, more likely a myopic isheep. .
okay I call bs on you. how much Apple stock do you own pal?
I always told my friend Android was way better, now I have support
you only have micro USB cables around because all the electronic devices people use nowadays (camera, GPS, etc) use them
you cannot change the hardware of your device, you rookie, your tablet comes the way it is. if you want to get that double tap unlock thing (which i highly doubt is included in the iPhone), buy yourself one which supports that feature
you can't add storage space because your tablet is a frickin' nexus, and those don't have any SD slot, same goes for the battery
the only reason you say this is cuz you have a shitty phone, if you had type c you wouldn't have that problem.
you can even have two screen at a time, both functioning, on andrioids. Like watch videos whilst browsing.
How?
It's built in lot of android phones, such as those from Samsung and LG, but any android phone can add this feature. Check out Xposed framework, Xmultiwindow and XhaloFloatingWindow. Even if iphone can display two screens at once, it will not be able to multi-task, as IOS is purposely crippled not to multi-task by apple.
the LG G3 has a feature called Dual Window that lets you do that. Apple will NEVER Let you do that
9) Front facing dual speakers
10) Water resistant
11) Quad HD screens
12) Wireless charging
13) Turbo charging battery
14) Gestures/Swiping (3rd party, i.e. Nova Launcher)
15) Widgets!!!
16) Individual user profiles
17) Sideloading apps
18) Kid mode... and screen pinning
The list could go on and on...
IPhone's have widgets. They have turbo charging. They have HD screens (that don't totally destroy your battery life).
My nexus 5 has NONE of the other features you list.
iphone has fake class i would know, i do replace So many of them. you do not see people wantimg there andriod fixed, For example grab a galaxy s4 (1080p) and put it up to a iphone you will see the color difference. ANDRIOD wins.
I'm a pro photographer, colour correct screen are my business. Apple have a history if creating screens for professional that surpasses the existence of Samsung as producers of anything. Apple screens have been beating Samsung screens hands down since the iPhone came out.
Most Samsung screen have a very visible green colour cast that gets worse with age.
well we didn't say nexus in particular...this was about android...yes ANDROID
iphone 6+ only has HD screen (1920x1080) not QHD (guess you didn't know the diference?) This is old technology in android phones. So called iphone turbo charging is no where as good as android turbo charging which adds 8 hours battery time in 15 minutes. Apple doesn't have any manufacturing know-how and is totally dependent on it's chinese partners to produce iphones from individual components to final assembly, so it's understandable that it doesn't get high end technology.
Samsung is not the same thing as Android
If you want a good color rendering then buy a phone which is good for photos, not any old Samsung
agreed, apparently iPhone 6+ will only charge 20 percent in half an hour, whereas most Android phones make it to 30% or more (64% for Oppo, don't remember which phone)
Even though the QHD Samsung phones have actually good cameras in them.
With android, you can go back, you have the back button, whilst iphone doesn't.
Android allows you to download everything you want, but with Iphone, even if it is a free thing, they don't allow you.
Android is just cool, just not hat fast as iphone mostly
So people with iPhone's can't go back. Really? You really think that's true? You don't think that not being able to go back might be a really big issue and maybe after all these years apple just missed this being an problem?
At least I phones come with decent auto correct even though they are "hat fast" (whatever that is).
hahah, But all in all, android dominates though, that is a fact, It has more advantages than iphones.
Really? Android dominates? How?
As an android and iOS user, Android is a mess. Sure, you can spend your life tweaking your phone, but it's messy, inconsistent in look and delivery, unstable (Android L memory leak anyone).
At the end of the day, they both do the same thing.
There is no winner, its your preference on which you prefer.
But the end to end UX for most processes is better on iOS. Because it has one designer.
Where android at one point did a lot of things iOS couldn't, that gap has been closed. IOS 8 has more features than android now. Android L added features iOS 7 had.
Sure, it will swing back the other way at some point, but currently it's nor the way you think it is.
with android you pay what the hardware is worth with apple you pay what apple thinks their name is worth.
whilst I like apple products I would never buy one due to their pricing policy of
"how much can we force people to pay for this"
not the standard way of
"what has this cost to develop plus cost of manufacture plus profit margin"
when apple start charging for the hardware they give then I will think of buying apple.
well at least Android comes with downloadable keyboards with decent-er auto-correct (for example no f**k into duck)
Apple devices are pretty fast, I agree, but none as fast as the Galaxy S6 or the Xiaomi Mi4i, both housing 3GB RAM
don't forget the OnePlus 3t
Changing the battery in an iPhone will also void it's warranty
Amazinging changing the battery on my nexus 5 will also void the warranty. Unbelievable isn't it?
